So long Tivity, I hope you get your shit straightened out.

Not sure about this post, may delete later. Or not. Had a big change in my life lately. I was let go from my work at Tivity Health after 6 years of employment. My last day was 5/24/2024. I think I’ve had enough time to process things for now, and I’d like to get my thoughts down while they’re still relatively fresh.
At first I was irritated. I haven’t been let go from a position in quite a while. Tivity has been slowly terming developers for the past year, I suppose it was my “time to go”. The frustrating part is that there really isn’t any sort of reason given. It’s a bunch of corpo-speak. They make sure you know it’s not because of performance, but the company is just “going in a different direction.”
We had a really good group of guys working on SilverSneakers. The couple years there, it was Eric, Jon, James and I as developers. Add in Nick and Jasleen to help run the show, and things were going really well. Now Eric is the sole developer from the original group. He’s a good friend, and I don’t like seeing him under that stress. Tivity did hire another guy, but I did not have the chance to get to know him well.
Two things really stand out when I think about how things changed. The company going private, and the way the transition from on-premises to cloud infrastructure. I’m not here to talk smack, so I’ll only say the move to AWS was off to a really rough start. It feels like that could have been handled far better. Also, the lack of transparency about the future of the company was frustrating, I hope that changes.
